Associate Dean Prof. Francisco Leandro published article on China Daily

The 14th BRICS summit was successfully concluded in Beijing with China’s chairmanship this year. Looking back on these 16 years under the cooperation mechanism, Associate Professor Francisco Leandro, Associate Dean of the Institute of Research on Portuguese-Speaking Countries of the City University of Macau, pointed out in an opinion published in China Daily that the BRICS countries have built a multilateral platform for mutually beneficial cooperation and a fair global economic order.

Leaders of Brazil, Russian, India, China and South Africa held the 14th BRICS Summit under the theme of “Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development” via virtual conferencing. A series of seminars and activities were held among the five member countries to explore further cooperation in trade and economy, politics, global security, people-to-people exchanges, public health and sustainable development.

In his opinion, Associate Dean Prof. Francisco Leandro stated that the New Development Bank – set up by the BRICS countries – provides infrastructure financing for member states and developing economies; the “BRICS Plus” mechanism also creates room for South-South cooperation and the North-South dialogue. He believes BRICS will continue facilitating a steady progress of multilateral cooperation, public health and global security governance, building a mutually beneficial platform for future global development.
